A Real Life Romance

I am currently reading Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One.

The movie comes out this Friday and it looks like I'm actually going to finish this one before I see the movie. For anyone wondering, it didn't happen with The Hunger Games, but as soon as I saw the completely and totally awesome movie, I ran out and purchased the book. I have one book ahead of it and then I can dive into that one.

Back to the point of this post. The Lucky One got me thinking about love. I've read the books and seen the movies. So, I thought I would talk to an actual couple. The couple I decided to speak with was my parents. They have been married 43 years and are still going strong. Below are the questions I asked along with their ADORABLE responses.

1.  How long have you been married?

Mom: We have been married for 43 years.
Dad:   43 years  (Glad they both said the same thing)  :)

2.  How did you know the person you married was the one?

Mom: First time I met him.  (Yeah, I know I didn't ask when, but her answer was so sweet, it didn't matter)
Dad:   I don't know  (Man of few words. Hey, I'm not complaining. At least he answered the questions)

3.  Do you believe you are soulmates?

Mom:  Yes
Dad:  Yes  (How heartwarming is it that after 43 years, they still believe in soulmates!)

4.  What's the hardest part of being married?

Mom:  The hardest part about being married is learning about each other's faults and trying to get along and work through the problems that might occur especially the first 7 years of marriage.
Dad:  finances

5.  What about this person makes you want to stick it out, even when times get tough?

Mom:  What makes me want to stick it out when things gets tough is watching so many good marriages come to an end.  Marriage is such a fragile institution. It makes you want to work harder to make your marriage special.
Dad:  I love her  (If that doesn't make you smile, nothing will)

6.  What's the best part of being married?

Mom:  The best part of being married is finishing each others thoughts and sentences.  When you realize that you truly have become one.
Dad:   making each other happy

7.  What advice would you give to newlyweds?

Mom:  Never go to bed mad at each other.
Dad:   If you love each other, you can get thru anything. (Yes, they both gave me this advice as a newlywed)

8.  Did anyone give you advice when you were a newlywed?

Mom:  My mother told me to never go to bed mad at each other.
Dad:  true love never runs smooth

9.  What makes your marriage different? Why have so many marriages crumbled around you, but yours is still going strong? What's your secret?

Mom:   We listened to the advice given us.  We never went to bed mad at each other.  We would always work it out in prayer and thought.
Dad:  We love each other and we can't stand being apart.

What did I learn from this fun project? My dad is a romantic.

If you know him, you must be as shocked as I am.
Eat your heart out Nicholas Sparks!
